The Matador Match Challenge is an exciting opportunity to make an immediate impact. The CSUN Foundation has pledged to match gifts made to a wide range of funds for our students, colleges and other organizations on campus. In general, the match ratio is 1:1, so it’s a unique opportunity to double the impact of your gift and help CSUN continue to shape a brighter tomorrow.
Gifts from $1-$24,999
The CSUN Foundation has designated a $1 million match pool for eligible gifts ranging from $1-$24,999. From donations to the university-wide CSUN for a Brighter Future Fund to gifts that benefit specific colleges and campus organizations, there are many ways you can make an impact.

Gifts from $25,000-$250,000
The CSUN Foundation has designated a $5 million match pool for gifts between $25,000-$250,000, with current-use gifts receiving a 1:1 match. Gifts valued above the range will be matched up to $250,000. Gifts directed to endowments will be matched at 10% of the total gift commitment value up to $250,000. A wider range of funds is eligible for the match within this gift range. If you are interested, we would like to speak with you personally to ensure we maximize the impact of your gift.

The Matador Match Challenge runs from January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022, or until funds are exhausted. Every eligible gift will be matched by the CSUN Foundation, amplifying the impact of your support.

The CSUN Foundation Board has allocated $6M in funds to engage and motivate donors to support all areas of the campus community through a matching gift program for calendar year 2022. The program will advance the mission of the University by incentivizing philanthropic giving to short-term and current-use priorities identified by deans and campus leaders and will maintain CSUN’s philanthropic momentum achieved over the past five years. The funds are the accumulation of the net proceeds from the operations of the Foundation and are appropriated to further the partnership between the University and the CSUN Foundation and are allocated for eligible gifts as follows:
- $1M – to match gifts up to $24,999
- $5M – to match gifts from $25,000–$250,000
Gifts from $1–$24,999 are eligible for a select set of unrestricted (general use) and scholarship funds for use by the University’s colleges and units:
- Outright gifts and payments made by December 31, 2022 (or until funds are exhausted) toward multi-term pledges on new gift agreements executed in 2022 will be matched 1:1.
- Gifts to endowments are not eligible.
Gifts from $25,000–$250,000:
- Outright gifts and payments made through December 31, 2024 toward multi-term pledges on NEW gift agreements executed in 2022 will be matched 1:1.
- Gifts to endowments will be matched at 10% of the total gift.
Yes. The maximum match for any donor/household/organization is $250,000. It may be made in multiple gifts and/or split between multiple funds.

For eligible gifts and pledges under $25,000: All payments made during Calendar Year 2022 will be matched or until the fund is exhausted. (Funds are not encumbered.)
For eligible gifts and pledges over $25,000: Funds will be encumbered based on receipt date of the written agreement. All encumbered payments received by December 31, 2024, will be matched.
Yes, corporate match funds will be encumbered and matched upon receipt by the Matador Match Challenge.
Immediately, once the payment has cleared the respective financial institution and is processed by the CSUN Foundation.
Yes. For gifts under $25,000, the gift will be matched if it is split between eligible funds. For gifts $25,000 or more, the gift will be matched if it is received in one payment and/or pledged in the same gift agreement, and each of the designated funds meet the eligibility for the match.
Yes, if the amount pledged or contributed is greater than $25,000. Gifts under $25,000 are eligible for the match if directed to the Matador Athletic Fund or Matador Athletics Scholarships.
